The week that was

1. Chicken and mushroom ravioli with cherry tomatoes, broccoli and basil pesto.
2. Scrambled eggs with tomato, mushroom and parsley.
3. Ham, salad and hommus sandwich on wholemeal bread.
4. Watermelon

We have been trying to eat healthy this week and so far we are doing pretty well - but eating healthy definitely comes at a price! The cost of groceries is so expensive at the moment it is quite depressing. Oh well, at least the watermelon makes me feel better - so sweet and juicy at the moment, yum!

Again if you want any recipes let me know and I'll post them up.

What was the food highlight of your week?

ETA a recipe...

Ravioli with Pesto and Broccoli (from Healthy Food Guide - October 2009)
Serves 4

3 cups broccoli florets
400 g chicken and mushroom ravioli
3 tbsp basil pesto
2 tbsp olive oil
1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
green salad, to serve

  1. Cook broccoli in boiling water for 2 minutes. Add ravioli. Cook following packed directions. Drain and return to pan.
  2. Stir in pesto and oil. Add tomatoes and toss. Serve with salad.

I know exactly what you mean, I nearly cry whenever the checkout chick says the total price! It's outrageous!
My food highlight of the week was yummy fresh strawberries and apricots from the markets baked into a crumble cake mmm yum!
Those slices of watermelon look so good, must ad that to the shopping list, its so good in hot weather!
P.s LOVE your cupcake hero entry, what a totally decadent looking cupcake!

Unfortuantly my highlight for the week was finding out I am allergic to certain varieties of Mango. My eye swelled up like an egg & I drove myself to the ER.

Should have had some watermellon instead, looks tasty.

I worked overtime all this week and didn't have a chance to cook or eat anything interesting, but last week I had this amazing grapefruit crabcake salad at Cafe Atlantico in DC. Your scrambled eggs look simple and satisfying - just like I like 'em.

Lovely and delicious photos! It does suck that eating healthy is so expensive right? So not fair :) ♥

Mmm - too yum!

I think I forgot to tell you but a few weeks ago I had a go at making cakes in a Red Deer style - well, bit of a disaster - I don't have a bun tray, so in the oven the cakes expanded so much that they spilled up out of the cake cases and went everywhere. I thought I could salvage the mis-shapen cakes by frosting them, but the frosting was so runny and wouldn't thicken up, that it just turned into an uber-mess! Needless to say - no photos! We still ate them though!!

I have awarded you a Kreativ Blogger Award. Please just pop over to my blog for details.

I'm not too sure what the grocery scene is like where you are - but here at least groceries are always a million times more expensive if they are a) processed/packaged b) at a grocery 'super' store.

I always try to get fresh foods (dairy, veg and meat if I ate meat)at my market and a place called victory meat market - everything is super cheap and so much healthier than a box of something.

Now if only I had the time to cook it....

Fiesta - unfortunately fresh is not always cheaper here in Aus and it really annoys me! I am trying to get out to the farmer's market ASAP but it is 40 degrees here (100+ F)

lulufroufrou - thanks so much for the award :)

Red Boots - oh no - what frosting recipe did you use? And yeah unless you have very sturdy paper cases then you definitely need a muffin tin.

Since I'm sickish this week, my highlight was all about comfort. I made a big pot of marina sauce filled with ground turkey and mushrooms.

Groceries ARE expensive right bow. It's easier to eat UNhealthy than healthy!

Those eggs you made sounds delicious...and pretty pictures!

I totally agree about the price. We are trying to counter act that by growing a few veggies at home, but until the veggies actually appear it makes it difficult! My highlight would have to be Hog Breath! Haha, very lazy week this week for me and cooking. Oh well, today is the start of a new week!

We just ate some yummy Brie with Red pepper jelly on french bread...it was so perfect! :-)
Coming up this week I am making your Snickers cupcakes...that will be the highlight I am sure! :-)

eating healthy is way more expensive, that is for sure. sigh. but i guess it is worth it? but the price of things IS SO DEPRESSING. sheesh. someone has to be making a killing off of the prices in the grocery store, and it sure isn't me!

Your food looks so pretty! That watermelon is gorgeous and now I'm craving a ham sandwich with a side of scrambled eggs.

My food highlight was panna cotta gelato (I know it's not savory but it really was my favorite thing!). I also had a very nice tomato/fresh mozzarella and walnut pesto sandwich.
