RIP PowerBook

Last night I killed my PowerBook that I have used and loved for the last four years. I was just settling down after a long day with Zoe, sipping on my cup of tea and then ah-choooo! I sneezed and spilt my cup of tea all over my laptop keyboard! We got paper towel on to it quick smart, but when we tipped it upside down it was dripping with tea. I have never seen such a horrific sight. I am not ashamed to admit that I cried last night, I cried and cried, and even went to bed sniffing. I loved my laptop and it was gone.

Fast forward to this afternoon when I got a phone call from Mat - he bought me a new MacBook Pro! It is beautiful, shiny and powerful, and best of all we have been able to transfer all of my data from the old PowerBook onto my new MacBook! I was worried that I had lost the last month's worth of photos (including Zoe's 1st birthday party) but I haven't lost a thing, thank god!

So my friends can I suggest to you that if you are feeling sneezy and have a cup of tea in your hand that you do not use your laptop, unless of course you want to upgrade :P

Oh my - I totally know how you feel! I didn't have a good excuse such as sneezing, but simply knocked over a huge full cup of coffee over my laptop. Sigh. I realized it sort of semi-worked after all the liquid dried...but it was permanently damaged and I got a new iMac...haha! Glad you didn't lose anything, woohoo! But remember to backup just in case, though.

That sucks Alicia! I hate when I grow attached to electronics... they always die on us (same thing happened with my last ipod) :) ♥ But I'm glad you have a new toy! That MacBook sounds amazing!

**GASP** Oh my goodness I would have been SO distraught! I would have definitely cried, too, especially if I thought all my files had been lost! Oh it gives me the heebie jeebies just thinking about it. Eeee.

I'm glad to hear that not only did you get a shiny new toy but that you were also able to save all your documents. *whew*

gah!!! i totally understand crying about that! but the killer thing is that you didn't lose a single thing AND you have a new macbook pro that will be good to you!

and as i am typing this i am sitting at work with a cup of iced tea not 4 inches from my keyboard. and i am klutzy beyond belief WITHOUT a cold or sneeze in the makings, and i better move it NOW! gah!

It was buy a new laptop or never see the wifey again (as she'd be holed-up at the desktop machine; away from the couch/loungeroom).

I like the couchtime so wise investment methinks. :)

Yay for new Macbook! And since you still have that fried Macbook, maybe you could try reviving it with this method: http://nozomi83.livejournal.com/172005.html

LOVE mat - what a catch! ;-) enjoy the shiny and the fast - nothing like a new mac. and a new keyboard - no crumbs!

i accidentally broke my husband's macbook pro last weekend (it was a horribly clumsy couple of days for me and long story short i broke his screen) so i feel your pain! i totally bawled... thank goodness it's a work computer and he went out to get a new one that afternoon.

Oh nose!! I'm so glad Mat come to the rescue and saved the day. Which reminds me I really need to back up all my stuff onto our server, haven't done it in awhile. Do you back up once a month? It's a good idea - If I thought I'd lost it, I'd cry my little heart out too.

Glad it's turned out okay *hugs*

Miranda - oh no! Damn clumsiness!

Chantel - we don't back up often enough - but we definitely will now!

Thanks for the tip about commenting, I didn't realise that was how it worked - I thought people found you! yeah i loved the idea of the mini m&ms in the batter but I was a bit disappointed because when they came out the oven all the m&ms had sunk to the bottom of the cakes and when you peeled the cupcake out of the wrapper they all just stayed behind!! so i don't know how to fix that problem! Sorry to hear about your tea and powerbook accident but wow what a generous husband you have to just buy you a macbook!! that's awesome, my husband has one and i love using it! x

How's the new computer working? :)

Thanks for the great advise ;)

Congratulations on your new laptop.

How does it feel working with an all new Mac book?

Cheers!!

Gem - you could try tossing the m&ms in flour before adding to the batter. This can sometimes help them from sinking. Hope that helps :)

Blonde Duck and Chatterbox - the new laptop is awesome. I've just been sorting out everything and I'll get some new posts up today.
